News from S Heart Horses

We, at S Heart Horses, are in the business of breeding colts with the bloodlines that gives them the potential to be performance horses. Generally speaking, we do not show or compete in rodeo events, (we leave that up to you) but we breed the horses that will. This has been proven many times over by the evidence that most of our colts that have been sold over the last 25 or so years are proven performance horses—-ranching, roping, reining, showing, and more. We have strong roping genetics in our mares and stallion with many of the colts going to ropers who compete and use the horses on the ranch as well. We also have been developing the genetics that we are confident that will be attractive to barrel racers by crossing cow and speed genetics to develop colts that have cow sense, but can really run. We are looking for barrel racers who are interested in helping us prove that for a very reasonable cost!

Our colts have been sold to people who use them—-a good ranch horse is one that can do it all. He/she needs to have cow sense, be fast enough to outrun a cow, quiet enough to sort pairs, gentle enough for almost anyone to ride, drag calves to the branding fire, doctor calves in the pasture, and then go to the show arena—-reining, roping, barrel racing, or whatever your passion is. Our horses have the disposition that allows young people in the 4-H program to start a colt and continue with that horse through maturity. The horses are athletic and intelligent and bred to perform.

Our stallion, Mr Tardy Roller, has been our primary stallion for many years, and his sire, Freckles Priority, for years before that. You can read all about him on our website, www.s-hearthorses.com or our sale site, www.horsesofthewest.com on our Breeder page. In 2012 Tardy was with 18 mares and they will be foaling in late May/early June. There will be lots to pick from this year! We will be posting them on our web sites as they are born. Some of them will be sold with their dams, as we will be having a partial dispersal this summer. The mares are too well bred not to produce colts, so we are planning to sell them at reasonable prices to breeders who are looking for good mares to add to their herd.

In 2011 we bred three mares to Print It Hot as a test. He passed with flying colors. Accompanying this news flash are pictures of the 2012 fillies when they were young foals. In 2012 we bred 18 mares to him. We are anxiously waiting for his first foals this year starting in late March. Print It Hot is owned by Kim and Tom Cohn (our daughter and son in law) and he is just beginning his barrel racing training this Spring. We provide the good mares—-many are cow bred and some are cow/speed bred—and they provided the stallion power. If his 2012 fillies are any indication, his 2013 foals should be Hot! Print It Hot is the son of Hot On My Heels and goes back to Go Man Go on his top side. You can read more about his pedigree and characteristics on our web sites sited above.

Thanks for reading the S Heart News!

Congratulations to Candy and Kristin!

Candy Milroy and Ms S Heart Holly 007 , futurity winner and reiner

Congratulations to Candy Milroy and Kristin Bieber for their excellent performances in 2009 at the CCQHA futurity.  Candy rode Ms S Heart Holly 007 (picture above), her two year old mare in the Two Year Old Under Saddle Sale Futurity and won second Place in a field of 8 mares.  Kristin has shown colts for us for several years and this year she placed second in the Yearling Sale Lunge Line Futurity with Mr Tardy Angel.  Unfortunately, we don’t have a picture of Kristin—you can see Mr Tardy Angel on our For Sale page.  Congratulations to both girls.

2013 Update!!!!   In the years since this picture was taken, ‘Holly’ has been in reining training with Pat Mitchell of Billings, Montana.  Candy and ‘Holly’ have been showing in reining under the tutelage of Pat for two years and they  are doing well.  We congratulate them!!

Montana 4-H Kids Excel With S Heart Horses

Erica and Robert with their 4-H Colts at the fair in 2009.

As a way to encourage those who are interested in the 4-H Horse Program in our county in Montana, we at S Heart Performance Horses awarded two weanlings to deserving young people in the fall of 2008. A King Fritz/Sugar Bars bred colt found a new home with 10 yr old Robert Bliss and the King Fritz/Sr Doctor Tari bred filly is residing with 10 yr old Erika Cremer.  The requirements that were set for the award by the 4-H leadership and S Heart Horses involved applicants submitting a letter containing a plan of care, i.e., feeding, training, etc. and the applicant’s long term goals for the colt. It was understood that the recipients must complete at least one year in the 4-H Horse Program before they would be entitled to the registration papers.

We are happy to report that the yearlings were both shown and won blue ribbons at our county fair in 2009. Robert and Erika received their colt’s registrations at the end of the 2009 fair! They both brought their colts back to the fair in 2010 in the 2 year old under saddle class. Both students did a wonderful job of training their colts—Congratulations to them both!!! In a county where horses are used on a daily basis in the agriculture industry, it stands to reason that we have an excellent 4-H Horse Program. Some of the projects are: Horsemanship, Showmanship, Colt To Maturity and Packing. The leadership in the clubs is excellent—-involving women and men who are interested in promoting horses not only as recreation, but as a way of life. The ranchers in our county know the value of a good horse. The young people start to ride at an early age and learn to respect the importance of their equine partner. We congratulate Erika and Robert for a job well done and we want to share this success story with all who might read it. Erika and Robert, you’ve done a great job with your horses! Congratulations!
